The farce of the Iranian regime’s legislative elections, held on Friday, was the subject of an unprecedented general boycott. This boycott thwarted the regime's attempts to legitimize the mullahs' obscurantist power and present a chimerical democratic facade.

After two days of total confusion in the process of "manufacturing" the results, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, Minister of the Interior, announced that 42.5% had voted. Even this completely false figure shows a drop of 20% compared to the 2016 elections.

"Given the political situation and issues such as the (Ukrainian) airliner crash, the November and January incidents and other circumstances, this level of public participation is fully acceptable," said Rahmani Fazli. His words confirm the rejection of the regime by the Iranian people.

This boycott was in particular a positive response to the call launched by Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). "The Iranian people voted in the uprisings of November 2019 and January 2020 with their slogans of "down with the principle of the supreme guide " and "down with Khamenei," she said.

This call was followed by various activities by the Resistance Units, a network affiliated with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK Iran), in the country. There were also many demonstrations against the rigged elections, such as that of students at the Tehran University of Science and Technology on Tuesday. They held up banners that read: "We will not vote or boycott, we will be on the street" and "The wrath of the people is the measure". They also paid tribute to the martyrs of recent protests in Iran.
